Environmental Nonprofit Executive Director Salary: Up to 65k per year, depending on experience
Friends of the Clearwater, the Inland Northwest’s premier grassroots wildlands defense non-profit, seeks an executive director with a love for wild nature to help lead our organization. We are headquartered in Moscow, Idaho, with a second office in Missoula, Montana. We protect the wildlands of the Clearwater Basin in North- Central Idaho, especially the public lands of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests.
We seek a person to lead a three-person wildlands defense team and help grow our organization. The preferred candidate will have demonstrated leadership experience and success in fundraising. Experience in environmental activism and an understanding of public lands and biodiversity issues in our region is also a bonus. Responsibilities may be tailored to candidate strengths but will include strategic leadership. Basic knowledge of non-profit tax accounting and financial practices is also desirable.
Salary is up to $65k, depending on experience. This position includes health benefits, flexible scheduling, time in the field, and paid time off.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Fundraising, including grant-writing and appeal-writing experience
- Knowledge of public land management and environmental law
- Familiarity with financial management and nonprofit tax accounting
- A self-motivated and team-friendly work ethic
- Comfortability with news media, including writing op-eds, doing interviews, and addressing controversy
- Educational background in science, law, environmental studies, or nonprofit management
- A healthy sense of outrage and a good sense of humor
The person in this position will help staff our main office and should plan to live in Moscow or nearby, with a relocation stipend available. Moscow has great schools, a high quality of life, and is an easy place to live lightly but well. It is very walkable, has lots of community amenities, and is in close proximity to some of the best hiking, fishing, hunting, and outdoor recreation in the Inland Northwest.
