Please take a few minutes to comment on two proposed timber sales on the Nez Perce National Forest!
- The Johnson Bar Fire Salvage Sale would log 170-acres in the Selway and Middle Fork Clearwater Wild & Scenic River corridors. This would include helicopter landings in the corridor. To make matters worse, the proposed timber sale would also obliterate the Middle Fork Roadless Area, which was studied by the Forest Service in their 1987 Forest Plan. Lastly, we have great concerns about salvage logging in post-fire landscapes, as well as how logging could compromise fish habitat and water quality standards in the forest plan. 2. The Orogrande Community Protection Project is located in Crooked River, a tributary of the South Fork Clearwater River. This timber sale would log 250-acres in the West Fork Crooked River Roadless Area, with most of this acreage proposed for addition to the Gospel-Hump Wilderness Area. Important to note that the “community” of Orogrande is mostly made up of a few summer homes on old mining claims. And the “protection project” is inconsistent with the agency’s own research, which shows that the best way to protect structures is to do treatment within 150-feet of them, not thinning 1,100-acres.
