Dear Wildlanders,
Patagonia just placed an ad in newspapers throughout the Pacific Northwest calling for the removal of the lower four Snake River dams! If you support breaching, please consider participating in our letter-writing campaign to President Obama. Click here to read the 10 reasons the lower four Snake River dams will be breached. If you live in the state of Washington, also consider calling WA. Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell.
The Forest Service has released their Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Johnson Bar Fire Salvage (timber sale) near the Wild & Scenic Lochsa/Selway River confluence. We have many concerns, including the fact that the best available science suggests that post-fire logging is very harmful. Click here to view the project. The public comment period expires in late May and FOC has filed for a comment extension. We will have an action alert and talking points for your consideration soon!
FOC member Dr. Brian Petersen, assistant professor in Environmental and Sustainability Studies at Western Michigan University has an exciting podcast that we want to share with you. Recently, Brian has conducted interviews with conservationists, such as Scott Silver with Wild Wilderness and George Nickas with Wilderness Watch.
The 42nd Moscow Renaissance Fair is set to take place on May 2 & 3 in East City Park. Come visit the Palouse-group Sierra Club and FOC in the food vendor section and buy one of our smoked salmon crepes and/or fresh huckleberry crepes. Look for us rain/shine from 9am – 5pm all weekend long. All proceeds benefit wildland programming!
And speaking of the Palouse-group Sierra Club, please consider joining them on Monday May 4th for Help Move Avista Beyond Coal.
Hope to see you at our yummy crepes booth!
