Dear public land lovers,
Due to a recent court order, the federal government is hosting over a dozen public hearings this fall around the Pacific Northwest to develop a new Environmental Impact Statement that analyzes the lethal impacts the dams on the Columbia-Snake have on threatened salmon populations. That means we have another important opportunity to deliver strong support for breaching the four deadbeat lower Snake River dams!
A hearing will take place on Wednesday November 16 from 4:00 – 7:00pm in the Seaport Room at the Red Lion Hotel, 621 21st Street in Lewiston, Idaho. FOC and allies have simultaneously reserved the Port 2 Conference Room in the hotel in order to share important facts with citizens about the vast benefits of a free-flowing lower Snake. Due to a recent court order (sound familiar?!), the federal government has re-opened the process to list the imperiled wolverine under the Endangered Species Act. You may recall that the US Fish & Wildlife Service recently rejected the opinion of their own scientists, and chose not to protect the species under federal law. We now have the opportunity to tell the agency to do the right thing, and protect this large-ranging carnivore!
The best available science suggests that the second largest population of wolverines in the lower 48 is in the Clearwater Basin of north-central Idaho! Please submit a public comment by Thursday November 17. Click here to read our full action alert.
We also want to thank everybody that was able to attend our recent Annual Meeting & Gathering. The camaraderie was excellent, the food delicious, and the spirits were high. We offer our appreciation to all the local businesses and individuals that supported our silent auction too!
Please consider speaking for wild salmon and wolverines this month!
Sincerely,
Brett Haverstick
