Dear Wildlanders,
Trick or treat? In this case, a really big treat! Resources Conservation Company International, a subsidiary of General Electric, has withdrawn their motion in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals for a stay (removal) of the injunction. The injunction handed down by Federal Judge B. Lynn Winmill on September 13, 2013 will now remain in effect for Omega Morgan megaloads on Highway 12, until the judge issues a final ruling on the merits of the case.
We’d like to offer congratulations and a deep sense of gratitude to the Nez Perce Tribe, Idaho Rivers United, Advocates for the West, Fighting Goliath, and all the other groups and individuals that have been working so hard to prevent the wild and scenic river corridor from becoming industrialized.
Please help us take the next step and send a message to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), instructing them to tell the Forest Service, an agency within the USDA, that it must adhere to the Wild & Scenic Rivers Act and permanently protect the intrinsic values of the Middle Fork Clearwater & Lochsa River corridor.
If the above news makes you happy, then please consider joining us for our upcoming 2013 Annual Meeting & Gathering! On Saturday November 9, 6:00 – 10:00pm, we will be whoopin’ it up in the Great Room of the 1912 Center to celebrate this victory, and all of the other accomplishments, that we have achieved as a widland community in 2013.
Come to 412 E. Third Street for a delicious community potluck, silent auction, an awards ceremony, our Board elections, and live music by FOC member Tom Peterson. Adult and children beverages will be available, too.
Let’s get wild,
Brett
